Thirty-one students have completed their educational journey with HUGGS. Our graduates now work in their communities in a variety of fields and stay connected to HUGGS through the Study Centre and the annual Alumni Dinner attended by HUGGS staff and Board of Directors representatives.
Vivekavathi was HUGGS’ first student and first professional graduate when she completed her Nursing Training in 2009. Today she is head nurse in a Cardiac Unit. Since her father’s death many years ago, the family had lived in a rented village home. Viveka’s dream was achieved when she was able to buy this home for her mother, sister and brother.
Lalitha’s family consists of her single mother and two sisters. Thanks to HUGGS, she has graduated with a B.Sc. in Computers, and is now working with a software development company. She says: “I want to thank you for all your gifts, love, care and support. I have the desire to help others as I received help from you. HUGGS is my inspiration.”
Sai Venkatesh became a HUGGS student in 2007 when he entered Grade 11 at BVK Junior College. On completion of Grade 12, he was torn between continuing his studies and joining the Indian Navy. When he was accepted by the Navy, he thanked HUGGS for providing him with the High School diploma that made his entry into the Navy possible. Sai travels extensively. Whenever he is home in Vizag, Sai makes time to visit with the current students at the HUGGS Study Centre.
HUGGS Canada is a registered Canadian charity, empowering youth through education in South East India. HUGGS focuses on promising young people who have the ability to excel in education, but are without the resources to study beyond Grade 10.
Thanks to our generous donors, we sponsor young people in Visakhapatnam (Vizag), to complete their secondary and post-secondary education. Students are selected based on financial need, academic ability and family encouragement.
Today more than 30 HUGGS graduates are working in their communities in careers including nursing, teaching, engineering, finance and computing.
