HUGGS Study Centre (HSC)
Many HUGGS’ students live with their families in one-room homes, where the furniture is often just one bed and a cooking stove – hardly the ideal setting for focused study. Often, the front door step is the only spot where light from a street lamp shines just enough to read a textbook.
The HUGGS Study Centre (HSC) was set up in 2011 to give students a space where they can study and do their homework. The HSC also provides a base for HUGGS' students to congregate, share, learn and gain the support necessary to excel in their studies. What started as a single room with one office computer and a few chairs has now expanded to include a computer lab, a small library, visual aids and other facilities for the increasing number of students.
The Centre is open from 4 pm to 8 pm Monday through Saturday. The HUGGS Coordinator is available at the HSC to counsel students, oversee the tutors, and administer various student support services.
Tutors are present at the HSC to guide students through homework and to conduct tutorials.
The mission of HUGGS Canada is to provide underprivileged students in India with the opportunity to further their education, enabling them to contribute more effectively to their families and communities.
