RACHEL – HUGGS FRONTLINE PROFESSIONAL
In these challenging times, HUGGS is privileged to have a frontline professional on its Board. Rachel Samuel is a Registered Nurse (RN) who works in a hospital in Metro Vancouver. She has volunteered with HUGGS since her days at high school. In 2019, Rachel visited the HUGGS program in Vizag, India where she spent time with students and staff. During the past months, Rachel is on full-time duty at her hospital, but in her off-duty hours she has contributed valuable time to HUGGS. Thank you, Rachel! This is what she says::
“These last few months have been a difficult time as we navigate through the COVID-19 pandemic. Everyone’s lives have been disrupted, from job losses, to social distancing, to health challenges, and more. As an Emergency Department RN, it has been a stressful time, with many changes from the constant wearing of masks and protective equipment, to simulations and preparation for worst case scenarios. The incredible support from our community has kept us going, from the nightly cheers to the messages of support we have received. Together with our community in India, let’s continue to “be kind, be calm, and be safe” in the words of Dr. Bonnie Henry. Thank you all for your continued support for front line workers, it means a lot!”
